Step by Step Guide to Receiving your Certificate:

RapidSSL Certificates occurs to level of authentication process while issuing SSL certificates which is also known as automated vetting process. Before an issue of SSL certificate to web site owner or operator, following vetting process must be completed.

Stage 1: Voice Call Validation

As part of the enrollment process you will be prompted to complete the Voice Call Authentication. This is where we will place an automated call to your cell phone or telephone number and demand you to enter a PIN which we display on screen, so make sure you have full authenticated access to your cell phone or a telephone when you enroll SSL certificate from RapidSSL.

If you do not have full admittance, or experience any difficulty in completing the Voice Call Validation during enrollment do not worry. We will also send you an alternative email for the comprehensive indicating how you can attempt the voice call validation process another time. Even though still you have issues, then you should contact authenticated Certificate Authorities technical supporters via live chat, or phone calls. They will aid you in completing the process employing manual guidance.

Stage 2: Email Authentication

When you have successfully completed the Voice Call Authentication, we will send an Approver email to the designated APPROVER email address. You would have selected the Approver email address during enrollment, this would either be:

The email address connected with your WHOIS contact (if you are unsure you can check this address by searching the WHOIS database at www.whois.com)
One of the following generic email addresses:
  • Admin@xyz.com
  • Administrator@ xyz.com
  • Webmaster@ xyz.com
  • Hostmaster@ xyz.com
  • Postmaster@ xyz.com
Unless the web site owners or operators receives this email and approves the application by clicking on the link/ URL within the email, they won’t be able to receive an SSL certificate. If you are the administrator, web site owner or web site operator of the Approver email address please confirm with any spam filters and virus protection folders in case the email has been quarantined.

The Security Feature of Code Signing Certificates

A Code Signing Certificate is a technology which includes the process of validation for publishers of software, content, code, and scripts based on a digital signature to authenticate their identities to web users who have code, software, and content. In addition to identifying the identity of the publisher, code signing protects the code from being tampered with.

What is Code Signing Certificate?

In order to determine that applications and dynamic articles (such as ActiveX controls) are trustworthy or not, the first question is to validate or authenticate that the code or content, including the publisher and author, should in fact be trusted. An effective way to confirm the authentication of its author or publisher is Code Signing Certificate. Normally the authoring programmer supplies a software program or content that is known and trusted. Now in certain situation a Code Signing Certificate will authenticate the author and publisher for their application and content using digital mechanism.

How to Deal with Code Signing Certificate?

Code Signing Certificate depend on a digital signature technology, which is issued by an internationally trusted third party called Certificate Authority (CA). A Code Signing Certificate from a trusted major Certificate Authority (CA) will identify the software and publisher. For example, VeriSign / Symantec SSL and Thawte SSL utilize digital IDs for application designers. When a programmer applies for a digital ID, it is necessary to provide confirmation of identification. A public/private key couple is produced when the certificate is issued. The key continues to be on the requester’s computer and is never sent to the CA and should not be shared with anyone. The community key is presented to the CA with the certificate.

Once the certificate is issued, the developer uses the private key associated with that group key to sign the content, code, or script. When web users download the signed code, they get a copy of the certificate to authenticate the identity of the publisher/author. The Web browser verifies the digital signature, and the user trusts that the code did indeed come from that particular developer.

Effects of Code Signing Certificate once it is issued

1.       The code is put through a one-way hash function. This creates a “digest” of fixed length.
2.       The developer’s private key is used to encrypt this digest.
3.       The digest is combined with the certificate and hash algorithm to create a signature block.
4.       The signature block is inserted into the portable executable file.

Steps of Authentication Process When Code is Downloaded from another User

1.       The certificate is examined and the developer’s public key is obtained from the CA.
2.       The digest is then decrypted with the public key.
3.       The same hash algorithm that was used to create the digest is run on the code again, to create a second digest.
4.       The second digest is compared to the original.

HTTPS (SSL Certificates) Now! A Mandatory Part of eCommerce

SSL Certificates (HTTPS) is very well known phrase in web security worldwide, however very few consumers are truly familiar with this term and what it is or how it performs. HTTPS is mandatory on all ecommerce business platforms for users and web server security on globally.

Secure Socket Layer (SSL or HTTPS) certificates were designed and developed by Netscape to create a secure tunnel when transferring sensitive data between site users and web hosts. The execution of SSL certificate on web platforms increase the security protocol called encryption and decryption technology between browsers and servers. In critical terminology where an SSL certificate is the authentication of web browsers and servers by a trusted third party which is called and well known as Certificate Authority (CA) internationally.

Steps of SSL Certificates (HTTPS) Execution

1.       A web page is created by a web browser  - https:// usually
2.       A public key is sent by a web server along with its SSL certificate
3.       The browser then verifies that the certificate is issued by a trusted source and that the certificate is valid
4.       Upon confirmation, the public key is then used by a web browser to encrypt a random symmetric encryption key and is transmitted to the server with the URL that is encrypted and required along with the other encrypted http data.
5.        The symmetric key is then decrypted by a web server using its private key and the server then uses the symmetric key to decrypt the http data and URL.
6.        The requested html document and http data is then transmitted by the web server encrypted with the symmetric key.
7.       And finally the http data and html document is decrypted by the browser using the symmetric key and the information is displayed.

Various Types of SSL Certificates

SSL (HTTPS) certificates are available in many types, but selection depends on the SSL security needs, whether it’s for a single host name or multiple host names. There are options to select a different SSL certificate every time based on web site.
The following list are the types of SSL certificates which are being available at HTTPS to secure web site, web servers, and web users over the internet.
1.       Dedicated SSL Certificates
2.       Share SSL Certificates
3.       Free SSL Certificates
4.       WildCard SSL Certificates

Advantages of SSL Certificates

1.      Web Server Validation

HTTPS (SSL Certificate) protects your web site, servers, and web user’s sensitive information through encrypted and decrypted technology. An SSL certificate will pass the validation between users and browsers to authenticate the information before sending to servers. The SSL will be issued from a trusted third party platform which is called Certificate Authority (CA) in web security internationally.

SSL certificate raise the secured and the toughest environment to stop online fraudsters, scam, and hacking while transmitting data over the internet.

2.      Confidential Transmission

An ECommerce business transaction includes the transmission of confidential information such as credit card, bank details, and PayPal credentials from users. While transmitting sensitive information to servers the SSL certificate encrypts unreadable code and characters from sensitive information using encryption and decryption algorithms. The entire process creates and unreadable format of sensitive details. This eases the concern and increases trust levels in site users that they can relax and feel confident that their sensitive data will not fall into the wrong hands.

3.      Trust and Confidence

Installing an SSL certificate on an eCommerce web site, ultimately this HTTPS secure environment will raise the message for customers; this platform is serious about customer’s sensitive information.  Ultimately the entire secure ecommerce experience will improve web user’s trust and confidence over the online shop.
